Tabasco Flood Relief

Flooded Street in Tabasco: Photo courtesy of: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=1851344511&context=set-72157602950327942&size=lIf you have not had the opportunity to see the images of the Mexican state of Tabasco that CNN has been broadcasting, please understand that the inhabitants of this area are dealing with a true disaster. Due to unseasonable heavy and continual rain, several rivers have flooded their banks inundating businesses, homes, schools, and churches. News reports put up to 80% of this low-lying state currently underwater. Calls to church leaders in this district have returned reports of lower lying areas completely underwater, of many homes and churches with more than five feet of water in them, and of flooding so high that even people who live on the second floor of a building have found shelter elsewhere because there is no access to their homes.

They need drinkable water, powdered milk, towels, diapers, canned food, and lots of other basic items. However, what the church leaders have asked for specifically at this time are medical personal with medicines and vitamins to come and offer care. This is extremely important as the floodwaters begin to recede and diseases resulting from contaminated drinking water and inadequate services begin to appear.

For this reason, we are appealing to you to consider sending a one time offering to provide the finances necessary to buy the medical supplies and pay for the trip of several Christian doctors from the Yucatán to Tabasco to provide front-line relief as well as the peace of Christ in this critical situation. An on-line giving form is accessible through this link.

Prayer Focus: Aguascalientes

Aguascalientes MapAguascalientes, one of the smallest states in Mexico, is named for the number of hot springs in the area. It has also been called La Ciudad Perforada (City of Holes) because of the labyrinth of tunnels dug in Pre-Hispanic times by an unknown Indian tribe.

This states population of one million includes:

  • 50% white/European descent (mostly Spanish, but also Italian, Russian, Polish, German, Swedish, Greek, and Romanian)
  • 45% mestizo
  • 4% Asian (Filipino, Korean, and Japanese, the latter thanks to the biggest Nissan plant in Mexico)
  • Less than 1% Indigenous
  • Less than 1% small communities of Americans and Canadians

Museum of DeathHome of Mexico’s National Museum of Death, Aguascalientes is known for its annual Festival of Skulls during the week celebrating the Day of the Dead (which is this week).

Let’s pray for the people of Aguascalientes:

  • That they would have eternal life and know the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom God hast sent” (John 17:3)
  • That through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life will set them free from the law of sin and death.” (Rom 8:2)
  • That with joy they will draw water from the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:3)

Urgent Prayer Needs

  • The Pino’s – Nick, study shows cancer cells present; Ruth, recovering from hip replacement surgery
  • Joyce Stoneking – undergoing second cancer related surgery
  • Tyler (Kelley’s grandson) – he is miraculously alive and walking; continue to pray for him as he endures a long road to recovery.
